Glee-ful

Dear Little Brother:

Last night was a Glee night...you probably don't know about Glee unless the afterlife has television - but it's singing, dancing and social commentary - all in rolled up into one high school some where in Ohio...the 23 year old you would have probably thought it was lame and the word "sellout" would probably be thrown around...but I'm hoping the 28 year old you would have enjoyed it...they've even covered Beck's I'm a Loser....Poison's Every Rose Has its Thorn...and the Beatles's Blackbird.

I remember the Poison poster that hung on your door...You knew all of their names...we even had a dog named C.C. after C.C. Deville...knew every word to every song...and even dressed like a glam rocker...you were only like 7 years old so your rocker wardrobe was limited...but you always had plenty of guitars, microphones, drum sets - real and pieced together buckets w/ duct tape so you could jam - There is a picture of you with your kid made drum set, drum sticks in hand - rocking out with no shirt, sun glasses and a black hat that went to one of your many Freddy Krueger costumes...

Much like your rocker icons...you battled addiction...but the drugs eventually won the war...C.C. Deville is sober now, I think...I'm not sure about the other guys in the band...
Musical talent we had in common - yours born out of raw talent and a deep passion to create, write, play and sing - well singing wasn't your strongest musical talent - Mine, partly talent and years of playing an instrument in band...I could never pick up an instrument and play from the heart the way you did or spend all night writing a song like my life depended on it...but you did...

You - dead at 23 so we'll never know what could be...
